The Medical and Dental Foundation (MDF) is a not-for-profit organization with volunteers from a variety of professions who work together to provide medical and dental services, free of charge, to underprivileged people without any discrimination in terms of religion and nationality.  The dedication of the volunteers portrays their great and sincere desire to build a better world.

Dr. Rim Kessakorn –  a dentist who contributes to changing lives along the borders.

Age: 61 years

Workplace: Rim Dental Clinic and Dental Center of Ramkhamhaeng Hospital

Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery and Graduate Diploma (Prosthodontics) from Chulalongkorn University

Notable Contribution

Dr. Rim specializes in prosthodontic dentistry but dedicates much of his personal time and resources to philanthropic work.  In 1985 – 2005, Dr. Rim joined the medical and dental unit of Santisuk Association and treated patients over  110 trips in 30 provinces, mainly along the borders of the Northeastern region of Thailand.

In 2006, Dr. Rim established and is positioned as a chief of Medical and Dental Mobile Units worked with Private Dentist Association of Thailand (PDAT) on charity trips until 2012. He then established the Medical and Dental Mobile Unit Foundation (MDF) which continues to closely collaborate with PDAT to this day.

MDF is going strong and the  year 2019 marks the 14th year the Foundation has been in operation.  It has successfully set up 55 main projects as well as 95 interim projects.  The contributions received come from continued support  generated from several public and private entities. Besides the general public, monks are also treated by MDF at Wat Dhammamongkol Taobunyanonwihan, Wat Chuchitthammaram, and at Phutamonton.

Other activities that Dr. Rim has participated in throughout his philanthropic career include: 

  • Dental project at a financially-challenged neighborhood in Klong Toey, lot no. 9, where  a  total of 24 projects continued over a period of 2 years
  • Dental projects at financially-challenged neighborhood under the National Housing Authority
  • Dental projects under the Dental Innovation Foundation Under Royal Patronage
  • Dental projects under The Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer Foundation
  • Dental volunteer for the autopsy of tsunami victims in Panga in 2004

Dr. Rim has been involved in medical philanthropy for 33 years.

While operating his own clinic, Dr. Rim’s Dental Clinic, Dr. Rim has been an active volunteer in the medical and dental mobile units throughout his career. In 1985 – 2005, Dr. Rim participated in 110 medical and dental mobile operation trips under Suntisuk Association, travelling mostly to Thailand’s borders in northeastern region. In 2006, Dr. Rim established Thai Medical and Dental Mobile Unit (ThaiMDMU) which was subsequently re-established as Medical and Dental Mobile Unit Foundation (MDF) in 2012. He was a chairman of ThaiMDMU and has been a chairman of MDF since the reestablishment until today. MDF, in cooperation with Private Dental Association of Thailand, has been providing medical and dental treatment to poor and underprivileged people in remote areas nationwide, both Thai and non-Thai, free of charge.
Throughout 17 years of operation, MDF arranged 68 main trips and 192 sub-trips (for denture operation purpose) in 43 provinces, with tremendous support from both government and private sectors. In addition to volunteering under MDF, Dr. Rim also provided medical and dental treatment to monks and novices in Wat Dhammamongkol Taoboonyanondhaviharn, Wat Choojitdhamaram, and Phutthamonthon district. He provided medical and dental treatment in Khlong Toei community and the low income community under National Housing Authority, and has participated in Royal Mobile Dental Unit hosted by Faculty of Dentistry of Chulalongkorn University and The Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer Foundation. Dr. Rim has been providing mobile dental care under several foundations and occasions for a total of 37 years.
